NAPHN LIVE is a free educational platform that offers a range of Passive House experts presenting on a wide range of Passive House topics. If the subject matter qualifies, the presentations offer AIA and PHI continuing education credits to attendees. The events are hosted by one of the NAPHN regional chapters, at noontime in their time zone, and can showcase topics and projects of interest to that chapter.

Millhaus Case Study: Finding Harmony Between Health, Comfort, and Performance

May 18, 12 MT | 2pm ET
Hosted by: Passive House Rocky Mountains
Featuring: Greg Fisher, Greg Fisher Architects

Millhaus is a single-family home located on the site of a former cherry mill near Fort Collins, Colorado. The home was designed and constructed by architect Greg Fisher, with the assistance of many others. Millhaus provides an elegant solution in harmony with the typical health, comfort, and performance benefits that a Passive House provides. This NAPHN Live will address the design and construction solutions and challenges unique to this project as well as some of the things learned in the process.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Describe how Passive House philosophy, criteria, and certification were incorporated into the building design.
  2. Outline how the typology and location, single-family in climate zone 5b, affected the design of the enclosure and systems.
  3. Describe the selected enclosure and mechanical system designs.
  4. Outline the struggles, strategies, and commitment needed to design and build a Passive House.
