PHN Presents: Passive House Certification Tips From A Passive House Certifier
May 17 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
Passive House Certification is critical to developing a fuller understanding of the Passive House Standard and the possibilities for optimization while providing a clear mark of a high-quality building. This support can be fully provided at the best price, when “the basics” are well understood and documented and common mistakes in the documentation are avoided from the get-go.
This presentation and discussion will dive into the reality that certification fees are heavily based on the designer’s experience and how complex the project is. A measure of experience is the quality of presentation of clear documentation when asking for a bid. The more organized and detailed, the better the price. And the key to this is a well-developed initial PHPP.
Hear tips on how to set your PHPP up to be well received by prospective certifiers, and support the best process of optimization at the best price possible.
Matthew Bowers spent 6 years in the Navy as a nuclear engineer and became interested in Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. Once his tour was over, he attended RIT’s Mechanical Engineering Technology Program where he wanted to become an HVAC designer. While at RIT he learned of “homes so efficient they don’t need furnaces”. He then focused his career path on Passive House. He graduated with the highest honors in 2010. Since 2013 Bowers has worked as a Certified Passive House Designer and Tradesperson. In 2017 Matt started his own Company – Rochester Passive House Consulting – an SDVOB – specializing in high-performance homes. He was the designer of Rochester’s 1st Certified Passive House – his personal home. Matt has Passive House experience in single-family residential, large scale multifamily, and commercial buildings as well. In 2019 Matt became an accredited PHI Certifier and provides training for PHPP and FLIXO. Matt is also a certified trainer with The Passive House Network for all of the courses offered.
