PHN Presents: Introduction to Honeybee-PH
October 25 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM EDT
The Passive House Planning Package (PHPP) is a trusted, effective tool for assessing a building’s energy performance and is critical for any Certified Passive House project. But for many types of buildings it can be very challenging to accurately model complex geometry, detailed multi-zone usage profiles, and non-residential mixed-use scenarios. ‘Honeybee-PH’ is a new, free, open-source software toolkit for use with the popular sustainability assessment package ‘Ladybug-Tools’ (https://www.ladybug.tools/) which enables efficient, flexible modeling of these types of large and complex Passive House buildings.
The new ‘Honeybee-PH’ software toolkit allows users to easily leverage the powerful features of the Ladybug-Tools for managing geometry, materials, and mechanical systems across large and complex models, while also adding in the functionality required for complete detailed, certification-ready Passive House PHPP models and supporting documentation. By utilizing this new software toolkit, users can now easily output dynamic energy models, daylighting and thermal comfort assessments, as well as a complete PHPP – all from the same 3D BIM model.
